I dissagree with all the answers so far about the mystery group,in my vast collection of rare and collectable 45s i have an ep by a group who look amazingly like the group in the picture but they are forming a different pose. The record is correctly as stated by Steve Webb on the ERWIN label but is in fact by a group called THE CABs ,they are singing 3 songs Johnny and Lotta,Nina,and the great uptempo doo wop called "Would you take her also"

Hey you crazy guys from europe,i did produce some 45s for the 4 rinos,but the guys you see in the photo are not that particular group,2 of the guys in the photo were members of the 4 rinos,but when as correctly stated in a previous guestbook entry that they split up ,the remainber of the group formed a new group called "Dem five groovy Kats"so this is who you see in the photograph, But ther"s no need to send me the prize for pointing this out

but wasnt there 4 members in the 3 friends,any how the 4 rino"s hardly ever get a mention in any history of vocal groups,due to the obscurity of some of their recordings which have been taken from various sources hence the abnormality in some of the recording levels on some of the stuff that you can find on various packages for the collector. but rumour has it that the group never really existed as a peforming group but only as a studio group,legend has it that one such studio session was produced by the legendary doo wop producer Howard feck de shiser. keep on woppin

Hi from the deep south of the USA its great to see that the name of the 4 Rino"s is being kept alive on your fantastic web site,you are correct in saying that the mystery group is the 4 Rino"s,with my brothers Deke and Luke as members ,but i must point out a couple of mistakes they were actually formed in 1958 and were never friendly with the Crysal-mates in fact they actually hated the sight of each other due to the fact that many fights took place between the two groups over girlfriends. This year a cd package will be put together for you the collector of many rare and unreleased sides that the group recorded on the Erwin label in the short time they were together,this will come out on the "FISTIN WATER SPORTS" label and available from all good doo wop sellers.

i am 100% certain that this group are the 4 Rinos from the Bensonhurst district of Brooklyn,formed in 1957 great friends of the Crystal-mates all growing up on the same street corners.Their 1st recording issued on the erwin label in 58 called "with this beer in my hand"sadly was"nt a hit, some years later brothers Deke and Luke Furtzer were drafted into the US army thus ending their short recording career just before the british invasion.in 1995 they reformed for a benefit concert celebrating 50 years of prof rinos.

Hey Ralf, nun ist es also raus – das mit der “the one and only one-member-Doo-Wop-Group”. Doch auch wenn ich nun viele meiner unzähligen Anhänger Enttäuschen muss: Ich werde nicht singen! Und das hat mehrere Gründe: Der Wichtigste: Ich kann nur einen Song. Und das ist „Ab heute nur noch Leder“ von Ted Herold. Und wer will den schon hören? Obwohl: Na, wenn Du ne Gitarre mitbringst... und ich genügend getrunken habe... ma gucken. Womit wir zum zweiten Problem kommen. Ich darf gar nicht so viel trinken. Am gleichen Abend lege ich zum ersten Mal im „20 Flight Rock“ auf. Ein relativ neuer Rock ’n’ Roll-Laden auf dem Hans-Albers-Platz. ZUM ERSTEN MAL HABEN WIR IN HAMBURG EINEN REINEN ROCK ’N’ ROLL-LADEN! Ist das nicht der Hammer?! Wie auch immer: Ich komme zur Gartenparty, aber leider nicht lange. Was mir ziemlich schwer fällt. Denn: Was haben die guten alten FAIRYTALES denn da bitte für ein unglaubliches Line Up zusammenbekommen?! Das ist ja fast wie in alten Zeiten! Hut ab, Jungs!

Hey Raff (ronnie i-mäßig ohne "L")... Hab Hupemans Backstage-Pass für 37 Euro bei Ebay verditscht. Und ich schätze mal der Käufer war unser guter alter Freund selbst. Gut, sind zwar nicht die 800 Mark die er mir damals geben wollte (genaugenommen schuldet er mir also immer noch ca. 375 Euro ;-)), aber immerhin. Noch n Tipp: Da er doch seinerzeit - angeblich - die Schuhe von Larry Chance gekauft hat und er doch ein noch größerer Fan von Euch ist, solltest Du ihm mal ein paar so richtig schön durchgeschwitzte Socken anbieten... Wobei: Diese Vorstellung macht mich gerade ziemlich scharf. Stell sie doch lieber bei Ebay rein. Wollen doch ma gucken, wem sie mehr wert sind...

This photo appears in the book Rock Archives where it is indeed identified as the Elegants, but as the line-up bore no resemblance to the familiar Vito Picone-led group, I was always convinced they had made an error. Still, showing a pic of the 'proper', 'Little Star' Elegants would, I agree, have made the competition too easy!

Aber für alle die es interessiert,das sind die Elegants die ,,A Dream come true/Dressin´up auf dem PHOTO Label aufgenommen haben.Ohne Vito Picone,der zu der Zeit im Hospital lag und während seines Hospital aufenthaltes von den anderen rausgeschmissen wurde.
Daraufhin hat Vito Picone sich die Tremonts( Believe my Heart-Pat Riccio 101) geschnappt und mit ,,Belinda auf Laurie,, noch einen massiven Hit nachgeschoben.

Da muss ich dem TONY zustimmen.
Ein,,Name that Group Contest,,mit irgendwelchen obscuren weißen Gospel Guuppen a´la Jordanaires oder einer Pop Vocal Group wie den XYZ Chancellors ist einigermassen überflüssig.
Wie wäre es den mal mit,,Name that,,DOO WOP Group,,;-)
Für die breite Masse sollte es aber eine lösbare Aufgabe sein..
Ich habe auch noch Dutzende Fotos von Gruppen die kein Schwein kennt,kein Problem,das wäre aber genauso witzlos.

Grüße von einem ehemaligen Doo Wop Artisten, den der Frank B. zu seinem leidwesen (glaube ich) in eine andere Richtung geschickt hat...Schön, dass es euch noch gibt...aber noch viel schöner, dass ihr nicht an Qualität veloren, sondern eher gewonnen habt; auch wenn sich der Stil schon ein wenig verändert hat.
